Our Winning with People
workshop is a highly experiential vehicle that draws from
the world of theatrical improvisation to captivate the
workshop participants from the outset. In this
highly-charged atmosphere, learning becomes fun, participants are
highly receptive to new ideas and actions, and team bonding
occurs naturally.
Viola Spolin, one of
the internationally-recognised originators of theatrical
improvisation games, created those games in order to rapidly
communicate ideas and concepts to her students. We use many
of these tools and techniques to heighten understanding and
create the core foundation for the Perfect
Team.
Fundamental are
trust, great communication, collaboration, complementary
leadership (a good leader should be prepared to be led
when appropriate and to enable the transition of
leadership), and a desire to achieve a synergetic
outcome. We explore all of these facets through
improvisation exercises such as Mirroring.
Here, the group works
in pairs. Initially one of the players is nominated as
leader. As he/
she begins to move, the other player mirrors the movements.
Eventually, the players harmonise naturally so that,
observers cannot determine who is the leader and who the
follower.
Mirroring is one of many improvisation exercises, each used
to teach specific techniques. After each exercise, there is
a chance to discuss, analyse and understand both strengths
and weaknesses that have been revealed.
The workshop switches
between such exercises and more formal discussions. The
outcome is accelerated learning through direct experience.
The day is FUN, highly thought-provoking and
motivating.
No two sessions are
identical.
However, an outline programme will likely include the
following:
·
“In at the
deep-end” (exercises)
·
“Who lives
Inside” (Personal Introductions - a fun, facilitated
ice-breaker)
·
Power of
Perceptions (video-based observation and rating
exercise)
·
Honing
communication skills (Masterclass: “Conversation is the New
PowerPoint ®”)
·
Real
Leadership (status and leadership switching
exercises)
·
Matching
solutions to client needs (Using specialised interrogation
techniques to identify deep emotional business decision drivers
and articulate winning solutions)
·
The team in
action (exercise)
·
Q&A
The size of the
Workshop group must be controlled in order to deliver
maximum benefit for all. A minimum of twelve
Participants is needed. The maximum size is
twenty.
Level of seniority is
not a necessary selection factor for participants, nor
indeed are Role, culture or gender. However, in order that
senior leaders can both be seen to lead by example and
enabled to determine the exact outcomes that they seek to
achieve when asking their people to participate, it may be
helpful for them to engage in the workshops at an early
stage.
The focus of each
workshop can be altered in order to deliver, within reason,
the specific outcomes sought by any given
leader. In
other words, this is not generic “training” and no two
workshops will be exactly alike.
